Low-intensity CBT with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) is usually the first step in getting mental health support and can help with mild to moderate mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety disorders.
It is effective for managing symptoms like:
- Stress
- Sleep difficulties
- Panic
- Phobias
- General Anxiety
Sessions are short (20-30 minutes) and you will usually have between 4 and 8 sessions in total. A PWP will help you to focus on coping strategies that you can use now and in the future, rather than exploring your past.
PWPs help patients understand the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors using guided self-help materials, including:
- Behavioural Activation: Scheduling activities to improve mood.
- Cognitive Restructuring: Challenging negative or worry thoughts
- Graded Exposure: Gradually facing fears and reducing avoidance
- Panic Management: Techniques to manage physical symptoms of anxiety
- Sleep Management: Behavioral techniques for insomnia
Low intensity CBT sessions are available over the telephone, video call or face-to-face sessions.
